The Humanitarian Crisis in Tigray

There are 4.5 million people in Tigray in need of emergency food. The humanitarian crisis is a result of the conflict between the Ethiopian federal government and the Tigray regional government ruling party, Tigray People's Liberation Front (PLF), which began in November 2020. At first, humanitarian access was completely blocked to the region. Since December, humanitarian access has been allowed but has been extremely limited due to restrictions and slow processes by Ethiopian authorities.

Join the campaign #AllowAccessToTigray to put pressure on Ethiopia's PM Abiy Ahmed to immediately allow full humanitarian access to Tigray and prevent more suffering for Ethiopian civilians and Eritrean refugees living there.

19 Stolen Years - Silent Protest and Speeches From Family Members of the Imprisoned

19 years ago, the Eritrean government shut down the free press and imprisoned the country’s most outspoken journalists and politicians. This played a crucial role in establishing the brutal dictatorship that has destroyed the lives of countless Eritreans and forced too many to flee.

Join our virtual event for a 19 minutes of silence on the 19th anniversary of the Eritrean dictatorship - one minute for each year. The silent protest will be followed by speeches by children of prominent political prisoners. The daughters of Seyoum Tsehaye, one of the journalists imprisoned in 2001, will be speaking alongside Efrem Berhan, the son of Berhan Abrehe, the former minister of finance who has been imprisoned without a trial since 2018 after publishing a book critical of the regime..

Refugees trapped in Libya - What Can We Do?

Tens of thousands of refugees and migrants are currently trapped in detention centres in Libya under horrific conditions. They are routinely abused, tortured, raped and sold off as slaves. With EU authorities cooperating with Libya to make refugees only route to Europe (boats over the Mediterranean sea) more dangerous, refugees are forced to wait for the rare UNCHR resettlements for a way out.

Recently, a migrant who had been trapped in Libya for 9 months lit himself on fire after being denied resettlement. The situation is dire to say the least.

What is going on in Libya is inhumane, unacceptable and heartbreaking. But it is not hopeless - there are ways we can help.

Join our panel discussion to learn more about the situation for refugees in Libya and what you can do to help.
