One Day Seyoum in Solidarity With #EndSARS

As Africans, as young people, as human beings, the Executive Team of One Day Seyoum unequivocally stands in solidarity with the #EndSARS movement happening across Nigeria and the African Diaspora. Nigerians are dying as they stand with courage in the face of injustice. Our deepest condolences go out to those mourning, especially for the recent victims of the Lekki and Alausa massacres. 

What’s happening in Nigeria is extremely disheartening to see, but the world should not make the mistake of being surprised. Nigeria, like many African countries, suffers under the government’s corruption and intimidation. SARS is one of the intimidation tools that the Nigerian government has used against its people, since its founding in 1992. It’s more important than ever to stand in solidarity with the #EndSARS protests, as this is the FOURTH time that Nigeria has had mass protests. In addition to the countless Nigerians who have and continue to sacrifice their lives for a better future, it has been reported that Instagram is censoring information related to the protests.

As an organization run by young, African womxn in the diaspora, we commit to elevating the voices of those continuing the fight against corruption and brutality in Nigeria as well as across the continent. We are all fighting the same fight - against corrupt leaders, neocolonial structures and deeply intricate systems of oppression - and ODS is committed to collective liberation.
